Five years ago Jaguar revealed the C-X17 at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and two years later, in 2015, they revealed the fully-fledged model – the Jaguar F-Pace, now accounting for two in every five Jaguars sold.
Jaguar’s first ever SUV, born from the C-X17 concept, not only had to live up to an SUV owner’s lifestyle and expectations, it also had to embody the core Jaguar values.
The C-X17 was the first ever SUV concept to come out of Jaguar’s design studio and it was made absolutely clear during the design stage that the C-X17 could not compromise the design values of Jaguar.
The F-Pace is the ultimate practical sports car
The C-X17 not only had to be stylish, sporty and dramatic, it also had to encompass the practicalities expected of an SUV. It also had to stand out from the crowd, but retain the sophistication of a Jaguar.
Design Director, Ian Callum and his team designed the C-X17 from the ground up with a “distinct set of principles, a deep sense of what makes a Jaguar – clean lines, exciting proportions, a balance of form, assertive and powerful, yet with a beautiful sensuality about it. The C-X17 is boldly, distinctively Jaguar”.
According to Callum, the Jaguar F-Pace is the ultimate practical sports car.
“By remaining absolutely true to our design principles the all-new F-Pace is immediately recognisable as a Jaguar. It offers all of the interior space you would expect and more, but because of our disciplined approach to surfaces, proportions, and purity of line, we have designed what I consider to be the most balanced, most attractive vehicle in its class”.
The F-Pace is stylish, sporty and dramatic
The F-Pace is Jaguar’s first SUV and it has been taking on all rivals, including the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3, even the Porsche Macan.
The F-pace is sleek, the LED headlamps and J-shaped running lights hint at F-Paces’s saloon siblings, while the grille is inspired by the XJ.
The rear of the vehicle has a distinctive air of ‘sports car’ and the sweeping roofline ends with a spoiler that nestles over a steeply raked rear window. Not only is this a stunning design feature, it also provides advanced aerodynamics and improved emissions.
It’s no wonder that two in every five Jaguars sold in 2017 sold were F-Paces and as we hit the middle of 2018, the F-Pace is going from strength to strength and is still leading the way for Jaguar.
However, all this may change with the introduction of the new E Pace. Smaller, more keenly priced and very distinct from the larger F-Pace, the E-Pace is widely tipped to become Jaguar’s biggest-selling model, as it takes on rivals such as the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3.
